This series was inspired by werewolf history and lore.
We know them as fictional characters and movie tropes, but in reality they were so much more. Real world werewolves were much like witches. They were normal people who, due to superstition and prejudice, were labeled as “devil worshipers”.
Many documented cases of lycanthropy have eerily similar details. Many of the confessions drawn from so called “werewolves” mention making a deal with the devil. These deals usually involved the individual receiving a magical belt. A wolf belt would allow the individual to take on the form of a wolf. Obviously, we know this is impossible, but there was a time where this concept was fairly accepted by the public. In fact, there were werewolf trials very similar to witch trials. Sometimes a trial would include cases of both witchcraft and lycanthropy.
Those convicted of making a deal with the devil often paid with their lives. Many of the punishments were unnecessarily gruesome.
This series’ name comes from the unique lore associated with she-wolves: the female werewolf. Many she-wolves were believed to not experience a full physical transformation. Instead, they would gain the senses and characteristics of a wolf. Those that were able to shape shift completely, were believed to be more in control of their form than their male counterparts. Due to this belief, she-wolves were considered to be even more dangerous than male werewolves.
