Why I Walk

I often go for walks, and sometimes bicycle rides. Sometimes people ask me why I do it so much. So, I decided to write about it today.

On the surface…

It’s good for you. It gets your blood moving. It’s also nice to be outside. I like to walk because I see a difference in how my brain and body feel, and function, when I do. If I’m ever feeling kind of down, going for a walk cheers me up a bit. If I feel stuck, walking helps me think of ideas.

On a deeper level…

I feel a connection between my thoughts and my movement. My intellectual and physical self are connected. So, when I am struggling with something, I walk. Moving past physical resistance helps me push past mental resistance. It does the same thing for me when I am sorting out my feelings on something. When I don’t know what to do, I walk. It reminds me to never just stop moving forward. That’s a reminder that I need sometimes.

Give it a try…

If you ever feel the way I do, maybe walking can help you too. Give it a try. Next time you feel down, or stuck on something, go for a walk. Let me know what it does for you in the comments!
