Expectation Versus Reality

Every name has a meaning of some kind. If you were to take a personality test you would be assigned a profile of your values, traits, strengths, and weaknesses. You were born under a zodiac sign. Imagine, for a moment, how different the world would be if you were expected to align your life to match these titles. What would it look like for you? Here’s what it looks like for me:

The meaning of my name…

My full name is: Chloe Alexandra Roloson.

The origins of my first and middle names are Greek. The name Chloe means: “blooming” or “fertile.” The name Alexandra means something like: “defender of mankind” or “one who comes to save warriors.” According to Greek Mythology, “Alexandra” is one of the titles given to the goddess, Hera. She was the wife of Zeus and goddess of childbirth and marriage.

My last name simply means: “son of Rolo (or Rollo).” It doesn’t sound like much on the surface, but there’s some cool history behind it. Rollo was a Viking who lived from 860 A.D. - 930 A.D. and he is referenced in history as the first ruler of Normandy. It is said that Rollo ruled Normandy according to a Viking code of law that was rooted in the concepts of personal honor and individual responsibility, as opposed to the intellectual laws of many other monarchs. Rollo was written into history by many Christian authors. He was a Viking chieftain who converted to Christianity, and became a respectable ruler. However, much of his life before converting, is left behind in history, or obscured by legend.

My personality type…

According to the Myers-Briggs test, I am an ENTP. The abbreviation represents: extroversion, intuition, thinking, and perceiving. According to the profile, as an ENTP I have certain attributes. ENTP’s are often referred to as being: knowledgeable, honest, quick-witted, original, charismatic, and energetic. However, on a less positive note, they are also categorized as being: argumentative, insensitive, apathetic, impatient, and unfocused. This profile suggests that ENTP’s work best in roles where they are testing ideas, and finding creative solutions.

My sign…

My zodiac sign is: Cancer. Cancers are said to be emotional and nurturing. Typically, they are referred to as being passive, and protective in nature.

My thoughts…

I do think that I live up to many of the attributes suggested by these categories, however there are obviously some areas that don’t match so well. If I were to be expected to live up to every aspect of each title, I would be quite a contradiction. Thankfully, I don’t have any force that makes me bend to the will of these labels, but it can still be fun to research them and see how well they do match up. It can be a great opportunity for introspection.
