Homemade Decorations

In this post I will present you with three reasons that you should consider making your own decorations. Let’s get started!

I believe in homemade decorations…

I have been making my own holiday decorations for several years. I realized this year that it is not actually a common thing. So, I decided to share some of the reasons that I would recommend it.

1. The experience of crafting…

Growing up my Nana would do arts and crafts with me. We would spend hours together just working on different projects. I cherish those memories, and I would like to carry on the tradition with my kids and grandkids one day. The process of executing a creative vision is incredibly valuable. It teaches you patience, and so many other valuable skills. I do not think that I would be successful with my projects today, if I had not spent time crafting as a kid. The experience is really humbling, and I find it to be enjoyable. It is a great thing to do with your friends and family.

2. Recycling…

Typically, homemade decorations are made from recyclable materials. I often use paper, aluminum, and cardboard to make decorations. In general it can be a great way to repurpose something that would otherwise be thrown out. It is a great contrast to all of the mass-produced decorations that you normally see. Many people throw away decorations, or let them sit for years. When you make your own decorations it encourages you to think about what you want to invest your time into creating, and it also gives you the opportunity to choose to use decorations that can be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.

3. Individuality…

When you make your decorations at home, you can be sure that no one has the exact same thing as you. It is a great opportunity to be unique and creative. I enjoy coming up with decorations that I know will be different from my neighbors. It is something that I have always been proud of doing.

Give it a try…

Take this next holiday as an opportunity to see if you like making your own decorations. Try your hand at crafting, and brainstorm some ideas. Let me know how it goes for you in the comments!
